Why Mandatum

What Sets Our Approach Apart

Editorial Discipline

We bring the rigour of long-form publishing to brand work — every brief, draft and revision follows a structured editorial process with clear accountability at each stage.

Legal Market Focus

Our work is centred on law firms and professional service practices. We understand the referral dynamics, regulatory sensitivities and reputational considerations that shape how firms present themselves.

Singapore-Rooted Perspective

Based in Singapore's CBD, we work within the same professional environment as our clients — understanding local market expectations, regional audiences and the norms that matter here.

Scoped Engagements

No open-ended retainers until you're ready. Our entry-level review is designed so firms can assess the value of outside perspective before committing to longer-term work.

Structured Feedback Process

Every engagement includes defined feedback rounds — so the process doesn't drift and the handover pack reflects decisions that have been deliberately made, not accumulated by default.

Written, Usable Outputs

Deliverables are written documents your team can use — not slide decks filled with frameworks. Every output is designed to be actioned, whether by your in-house team or an external agency.

Is Your Firm's Communications Working as Hard as You Are?

A two-week brand positioning review is a low-commitment way to find out where the gaps are — and what to do about them.

Common Questions

Things Firms Often Ask

What kind of firms do you work with?

We work primarily with boutique and mid-sized law firms in Singapore — practices that have developed a clear area of focus and a reputation, but whose client-facing communications have not kept pace with the quality of their work. We are not set up for large full-service firms with in-house marketing departments, though we occasionally assist specialist practices within those firms.

How does the Brand Positioning Review work in practice?

We begin with a structured discovery conversation with one or two members of firm leadership — typically around 90 minutes. We then review a set of current client-facing materials you supply: website, pitch documents, bios, any recent published pieces. Following the audit we prepare a written report — brand positioning statement, tone-of-voice note, audience map and three narrative directions — and present it in a closing session. The whole process takes two weeks from kick-off.

Do you write substantive legal content?

No. Our work is editorial and strategic — we work on how your firm communicates its identity, expertise and approach. We do not draft legal opinions, client advisories or anything that requires a practising certificate. For thought-leadership pieces we work from briefs and notes provided by your lawyers, then shape and write the editorial frame around the substantive points they provide.

What does the Communications Refresh actually deliver?

At handover you receive revised copy for each page of your website, updated lawyer biographies, three to five topic write-ups (structured as thought-leadership rather than client advisories where matters are sensitive), a set of templated client-facing emails, and a short editorial style note your team can use to keep future writing consistent. All copy is delivered as editable documents, not a locked PDF.

How is the retainer structured, and what are the commitments?

The retainer runs for twelve months with a monthly planning session and quarterly outputs. Each quarter we produce two long-form pieces and conduct a review of your public-facing content. Monthly sessions are typically 60 minutes. We ask for a minimum of one working week's lead time on any new brief. The retainer is invoiced monthly in SGD.

Can we start with the review and move into the retainer later?

Yes — and that is the path most firms take. The review gives both sides a clear picture of what is working, what is not, and what the firm wants its communications to achieve. It also gives you a practical sense of how we work before committing to a longer engagement. Firms that move into the retainer after a review tend to get more from it, because the positioning work is already done.
