In Their Words
Timothy Loh
Managing Partner, IP Litigation Practice
"We brought Mandatum in after a lateral hire changed our practice's centre of gravity and our website hadn't caught up. The positioning review was more useful than I expected — it surfaced things we had been assuming without questioning. The refresh engagement that followed produced copy we actually use, rather than something we had to water down before publication."

Sheila Ramachandran
Firm Administrator, Corporate Advisory Practice
"I was sceptical about the value of the review at that price point — I expected a light overview. It was more substantial than that. The tone-of-voice note alone was something we had been trying to write ourselves for two years. We're now three months into the retainer and the monthly sessions have become a useful discipline for keeping content on track. The process requires a bit of preparation on our side, which is worth knowing going in."
March 2025 · Brand Review → Retainer
Kenneth Yuen
Senior Associate, Employment Law Practice
"We used the Brand Positioning Review as a way to prepare for a rebrand we were planning. The audience map and the three narrative directions gave us a concrete starting point for those conversations with our web designer. I would have spent considerably more time and money going into that process blind."

Huang Ning
Managing Partner, Family Law Boutique
"Family law is a difficult space to communicate about. Mandatum understood that from the first session — the copy they produced was precise and measured without being cold. The biographies in particular read much better than what we had before, and the feedback from referral partners has been noticeably positive since we updated the site."
April 2025 · Communications Refresh
Arjun Menon
Partner, Commercial Disputes Practice
"We have been on the retainer for eight months. The monthly sessions are more focused than I expected — they are editorial planning meetings, not general conversations. The thought-leadership pieces produced so far have circulated reasonably well in our network. The main thing I would note is that the retainer works better when you come prepared with a topic direction, rather than relying on Mandatum to generate the brief from scratch."
Ongoing · Annual Retainer
Lee Chin Huat
Principal, Construction & Engineering Law
"Construction law is technical and the audience is narrow. Mandatum's positioning review was useful precisely because it approached the firm from the outside — the way a new client or a referral source would. The written summary was clear about where we were strong and where we sounded vague. We made changes based on it immediately."

Case Studies
Three Engagements in Detail
Case Study 01 · IP Boutique · Brand Review + Refresh
THE SITUATION
A four-partner IP litigation firm had grown significantly over three years but still carried website copy and biographies written at launch. Referral partners were noting the disconnect between the firm's current capability and what appeared online. A lateral hire with a different practice background had also made the original positioning obsolete.
WHAT WE DID
We ran the two-week Brand Positioning Review first, which produced a positioning statement, a tone note and three narrative directions. The leadership chose one direction and commissioned the Communications Refresh Engagement. Over six weeks we revised all website pages, updated all four partner biographies, produced four topic write-ups and built an email template library.
THE OUTCOME
The revised website launched eight weeks after the initial brief. The firm's managing partner noted that three referral partners had commented positively on the updated biographies within the first month. One of the topic write-ups was circulated in the firm's network and generated two new client enquiries within six weeks of publication.
Case Study 02 · Family Law Practice · Annual Retainer
THE SITUATION
A two-partner family law practice had strong word-of-mouth in a specific client community but wanted to develop a modest public-facing presence — primarily through considered thought-leadership pieces aimed at a professional referral audience rather than a consumer one. The firm had no internal resource to produce this kind of content consistently.
WHAT WE DID
We structured the retainer around a quarterly editorial calendar developed in the monthly planning sessions. Each quarter produced two pieces: one addressing a procedural or strategic topic for a professional audience, one more accessible in tone for the firm's website. Pieces were reviewed and approved by the principals before publication. Quarterly reviews assessed which pieces were circulating and why.
THE OUTCOME
At the twelve-month mark, the firm had published eight substantive pieces under its own name. The year-end review identified two pieces that had generated measurable referral enquiries. The firm renewed the retainer for a second year with a wider editorial brief to include website refresh work alongside the ongoing content programme.
Case Study 03 · Commercial Disputes Practice · Positioning Review
THE SITUATION
A partner preparing to launch a new boutique after leaving a larger firm wanted to establish a clear positioning before commissioning a website. He had a clear sense of his practice focus but was uncertain how to frame it for a referral audience that included both other lawyers and in-house counsel.
WHAT WE DID
We ran the Brand Positioning Review with the founding partner before the firm launched. The discovery session covered practice focus, target referral sources, peer positioning in the market and the founding partner's own professional narrative. The output provided a positioning statement and three narrative directions that the web designer and the founding partner used as the brief for the new site.
THE OUTCOME
The positioning review took two weeks and cost SGD 195. The founding partner noted that having a written positioning statement made the briefing conversation with the web designer significantly more efficient and reduced the number of rounds of revision on the site copy. The firm launched on schedule with communications that reflected the positioning agreed upfront.
